About the Role

Maybe New Day Is Your New Day

Dear Friend,

If you’re wondering where God might be calling you next, we’d like to tell you a little about New Day Church—and invite you to consider whether that next place might be here with us.

New Day is a small, independent church in Harrisburg, South Dakota, just south of Sioux Falls. We’re a congregation of about 100 people from all kinds of backgrounds and church experiences. Some of us grew up Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian or Catholic. Some came from other traditions. Some didn’t grow up going to church at all.

What brings us together is more important than what makes us different: we believe God loves us, Jesus changes lives, and church ought to be a place where people genuinely want to be.

Around here, we like to say, “Faith is fun.”

That doesn’t mean we take faith lightly. We want our faith to matter on Monday just as much as it does on Sunday. We want Scripture to speak into real life, to care for one another and our community, and to make room for people who may have never felt comfortable in a church—or who have walked away from one.

Our mission is simple: to engage unchurched, de-churched and under-churched people in a transforming relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

We try to live that out by being a church where you really can come as you are. Sunday mornings are relaxed, worship is contemporary, and there’s plenty of coffee, conversation and fellowship. Kids and young people have a place here, and Communion is open to all who wish to receive it. We want people at every stage of faith and life to feel welcomed, loved and able to experience the love of Jesus.

And now we’re entering a new season.

After 18 years of faithful service, our current pastor is retiring, and we are prayerfully searching for the person who will help lead New Day into what comes next.

We aren’t looking for someone to simply fill a position or reproduce what we’ve done before. We’re looking for a pastor who will get to know us, love people well and help us discern where God is leading this church next.

Our next pastor will preach and lead worship, provide pastoral care, help people grow spiritually, celebrate baptisms and weddings, walk alongside families through funerals and difficult seasons, and partner with our church board and congregation. Just as importantly, we hope this person will help us reach beyond our walls and welcome people who may not be looking for a traditional church.

We know ministry doesn’t always fit neatly into a job description, and neither do pastors. That’s why we’re open to structuring this position as either full-time or part-time, depending on the right person’s experience, availability and our shared sense of what will work best.

There is one thing that says a great deal about who we are. We call it the New Day Creed:

It’s not about me.
I give myself freely and totally to God;
That I may be used:
For the building of God’s Kingdom
For the care of God’s world
To love God’s children—all of God’s children
Even those who are not like me
Even those who do not like me
That God’s Kingdom might become real
And I might be blessed and be made complete.

Those words matter to us. We’re looking for a pastor who can affirm them, live them and help us live them more fully.

If you’re looking for a polished megachurch with every program already figured out, we probably aren’t it. But if you’re drawn to a close-knit congregation where people know one another, where there is room to build and grow, where new ideas are welcome, and where you can help shape the next chapter rather than simply inherit it, we hope you’ll give New Day a closer look.

Harrisburg is a growing community in the Sioux Falls area, and we believe there are many people around us hungry for a place to belong, ask questions, grow in faith and encounter Jesus. We want to be that kind of church for them.

Maybe you could help us become it.

If something about New Day resonates with you, we’d love to hear your story, learn about your ministry and begin a conversation about what God might have in store for all of us.

Please send your resume and anything else you’d like to share with us to jobs@sf-newday.org.

We look forward to meeting you.
