Job Description: Chaplain and High School Bible Teacher (Grade 9-12) 

Salary: Based on educational achievement and years of experience 


Purpose

The purpose of this position is to fulfill a chaplain and high school bible teacher opening. 


Reporting

This role will report to the Secondary  Principal and Lead Teacher 


Job Summary

The Chaplain will work closely with the school administrators to set the theme and spiritual tone of the school. The Chaplain will work with the teachers on chapel planning, meet individually with students to learn of their spiritual growth, and help plan and implement spiritual activities throughout the school. The Chaplain’s concentration will be on the spiritual needs of the school community.  


The role of a high school bible teacher entails daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.  A high school bible teacher is responsible for observing and evaluating student performance, behavior, social development, and spiritual health. The daily tasks include but are not limited to grading papers, answering emails, taking student attendance, and preparing necessary materials for each class activity. The weekly tasks include but are not limited to communicating with parents, checking on students progress, updating curriculum and lesson plans, and completing Friday checklist provided by the principal. The monthly tasks include but are not limited to attending professional development trainings, reading professional development material and observing and evaluating student progress. 


General Responsibilities

  • Live a life reflective of Christian principles and practices in and out of the work environment, including personal online profiles. 

  • Safeguard the interests of the American International School (AIS) and its mission/vision.

  • Carry out those items at the school level that are distinctive of AIS and its policies and procedures manual.

  • Provide leadership in the accomplishment of the spiritual mission of the school.

  • Communicate timely to administration and other faculty. 


Specific Responsibilities 

  • Work in conjunction with the Principal and lead teachers in developing and scheduling a yearly Chapel program that is well-rounded and age appropriate and that integrates the overall spiritual theme for the year 

  • Work towards having Bible classes to connect with the chapels and then be practiced in a variety of outreach programs and extracurricular activities. 

  • Oversee, coordinate and be involved in discipleship ministry through activities such as student Bible studies, prayer groups and worship 

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee the Spiritual Emphasis Week (SEW) events and coordinate with the administration the needs of the guests who come during SEW 

  • Serve on the school’s Leadership Team 

  • Work closely with the Counselor on addressing the personal and spiritual conditions of the students. The Chaplain will counsel as needed, which will grow as students build rapport with him.

  • Coordinate and attend school mission trips, community service days and other special events as designated.


Travel & Conferences

Teachers must attend ACSI pre-field orientation in the summer before beginning their teaching assignment. 


Qualifications

  • Christian with a consistent testimony among his/her family and peers 

  • Experience with mission organizations, third culture kids, and missionary kid schools (preferred)

  • 4-year degree required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

  • Teaching Credential (State and/or ACSI)

  • Experience in teaching
